The Vampire Academy- By Richelle Mead

The Vampire Academy
By Richelle Mead

"St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school-it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's- the very place where they're most in danger. Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy's ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. but they must be careful lest the Strigoi-the world's fiercest and most dangerous vampires- make Lissa one of them forever."
-Summary provided by the official website

I was able to read this book in less then a 24 hour period of time, but it also consists of 336 pages. The book was a page turner! (My favorite type of reading material!) I was on my seat's edge the whole book. Rose and all of the characters were perfect and I fell in love with them, especially Dimitri. The plot was not necessarily clear until later in the book, which I can understand because the author was setting the scene for a 6 book series. (Of course you are going to want all of that background information!) The only thing that I can complain about is that are a few curse words used and sexual content in the book. (But nothing past P-13.) My age recommendation for this book would be 13+ or at least in middle school because of the language and suggestion that the book gives.
